To receive a Medicare rebate, you first need to see your GP, who will assess your eligibility for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).
If you are approved for a MHCP, you will then be entitled to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual therapy sessions per calendar year.
Medicare rebate is currently set at $96.65.
-
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a document prepared by a GP that enables individuals to access Medicare rebates for psychological support. Initially, it provides eligibility for up to six subsidised sessions with a psychologist. Once these sessions are used, individuals can return to their GP for a review of the plan, which may grant access to an additional four subsidised sessions. In total, Medicare covers up to ten psychology sessions per calendar year under this plan.
-
Alternatively, if you wish to access sessions privately or do not have a MHCP you may be eligible to claim sessions with your Private Health Insurance.
We suggest that its best to check if you are able to claim with your Health Insurance Provider prior to your appointment.
If you are able to claim, all you need to do is take your receipt to your Health Insurance Provider and make the relevant claim. This is only applicable if you are not already using the Medicare rebate.
Please reach out to your Health Insurance Provider for further assistance regarding claiming.

No. You can definitely see a psychologist privately.
However, if you would like to access a Medicare-rebate for your psychology sessions, you will need a valid referral from a GP for a MHCP or EDTP.

No, at present we don’t provide psychological assessments for ADHD, ASD, cognitive, personality assessments.
We also do not provide any legal assessments or reports.

People experiencing an eating disorder can access treatment through either an Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP) or a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from their GP or Psychiatrist.
An EDTP allows access to up to 40 sessions of evidence-based psychological treatment with a Medicare rebate for a 12-month period under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS).
An EDTP also gives you access to 20 sessions of dietetic services from an Accredited Practicing Dietitian.
-
First off you have an initial session with a GP or a psychiatrist who will assess if you are eligible for an EDTP.
If eligible, you have access for 10 sessions. After 10 psychological sessions, the client will need to visit their GP for a review and an additional 10 sessions to be released.
After 20 psychological sessions the EDPT plan requires independent reviews from a GP and a psychiatrist or pediatrician. This is needed to allow for continuity of treatment. The review by a psychiatrist or pediatrician can conduct prior to the 20th session with their psychologist if needed.
This review allows access for 10 more sessions. The GP then conducts another review at the 30th session mark to release the final 10 sessions for the 12 month period.

If you have booked online and have paid the deposit and then cancel your appointment, we will retain the capacity, at our absolute discretion, to withhold your deposit and charge the remainder of the full appointment fee.
Cancellation fees are the responsibility of the client.
